Thurston Spaulding Jr., MSI
Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director
Thurston joined Capital Fiduciary Advisors, LLC in early 2014 as Managing Director and Chief Compliance Officer. Prior to joining CFA, Mr. Spaulding was a registered principal and financial advisor with Cetera Advisor Networks, LLC, formerly, Financial Network Investment Corporation, and was the supervising principal and senior financial planner for Dondero & Associates, Limited, and Planning Advisors, Limited, independent Registered Investment Advisor firms owned and operated then by The Spaulding Financial Company, LLC.
In his investment advisory capacity, Thurston led a financial team that managed in excess of $100 million of investment capital on behalf of individuals, families, small businesses, professional practices, and a variety of Trusts. He holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business, Department of Economics, Finance, and Insurance; received his Bachelor of Science in Management from Guilford College in 1985 while completing an academic study concentration in risk management and insurance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Thurston has over 27 years of progressive experience in the financial services industry having worked in the areas of comprehensive financial planning that emphasizes building adequate capital for retirement, investment management focused on achieving clients’ needs, insurance planning for employee benefits, and risk analysis & evaluation aimed at cost effective ways for managing “mission critical” loss exposure.
Paul Jacobson, CPA
Managing Director and Senior Wealth Advisor
Paul Jacobson joined CFA in 2015. Paul graduated from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, in May 1985 with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Finance. He initially went to work in life insurance sales with John Hancock in Miami, Florida. Paul moved back to Huntington, West Virginia in December 1985 to work for Hayflich & Steinberg, CPA’s. While working full time, he returned to college in order to obtain the appropriate classes and hours to be eligible to sit for the CPA exam. He passed the exam in 1992. He held various positions with Hayflich & Steinberg concentrating on personal and business taxation as well as retirement plan design and consulting. In 1995, he left to work for JJB WL Hilliard Lyons, a regional brokerage firm headquartered in Louisville, KY. In October 2000, he was hired by Independent Investment Advisors, Inc., a Registered Advisory firm as Vice President where he built a solid book of business and eventually bought the firm from the previous owner. In addition to his vast accounting and advisory experience, Paul is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (WVSCPA). He currently serves as Treasurer of the Huntington Museum of Art Board of Trustees and as the Vice President of the Huntington Clinical Foundation. He has previously served on the Board of Trustees for the Cabell Huntington Hospital Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Tri-State, Guyan Golf and Country Club and the Huntington Chapter of the WVSCPA.
