Tax Season is Prime Time for Identity Theft

Tax-related identity theft was the most common form of identity theft reported to the Federal Trade Commission in 2014. Criminals impersonating IRS officials contact you by phone, email or text about owed taxes. The IRS will NEVER contact you by these methods. If you receive an email claiming to be from the IRS, DO NOT OPEN IT! Instead, forward it to phishing@irs.gov. For more information about how to protect yourself from tax fraud, visit ftc.gov or irs.gov
